The commander of the 2nd PMPF Commando Group, Captain Mahmoud Jama Leexo, and another officer, identified as Said Mahmoud Mohamed Mohamed (Jiqda), were killed in a landmine explosion targeting their vehicle while they were passing through the Dasaan area of Qandala district.
Initial reports indicate that the explosion was a landmine planted by the ISIS group, which has repeatedly carried out attacks in the mountains of the Bari region.
The mine was found in a vehicle carrying the two officers while they were on a security operation.
May God have mercy on Captain Mahmoud Jama Leexo, a former officer who was wounded twice in battles in Dharjaale and Hararyo, but he always preferred to return to the front lines of the war when he recovered.
Mahmoud Leexo was also the brother of May God have mercy on Nur Jama Leexo, who was also one of the Puntland defense officers who died in the fight against ISIS. Both were frontline officers in the fight against ISIS.
The PMPF said the operation against ISIS will continue, and the deaths of these officers will not dampen the determination to eliminate the terrorist groups.
Their deaths come at a time when the war against ISIS is in a lull, as Puntland is currently preparing to eliminate ISIS, which has concentrated in two areas, the Baallade River and the Xabley Mountains, two areas believed to be home to ISIS leaders.
