Political organizations that participated in the ‘one person, one vote’ elections convened and reached an agreement on the following points:
1. The political organizations that participated in the ‘one person, one vote’ elections held in the Banadir Region and the South West, Galmudug, and Hirshabelle Regional States call upon the National Electoral and Boundaries Commission to immediately operationalize the Banadir Regional District Council and to establish an official schedule for the election of the leadership of the district administrations within the Banadir Region.
2. Furthermore, we propose that the role, representation, and participation of the political organizations—which took part in the ‘one person, one vote’ elections—within the conference convened by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia be clearly defined.
3. The political organizations have described their exclusion from the consultation forum on elections—convened by the Presidency—as regrettable and unacceptable. They view this omission as a move that diminishes their political standing.
Political organizations have played a significant role in the electoral process, the mobilization of their supporters, and the promotion of public political participation. Therefore, it is essential that the national conference ensures inclusive consultation, fair representation, and an opportunity for these organizations to present their perspectives regarding elections, state-building, and the country’s political future.
Thank you.
