The situation in Baladxawo town in Gedo region has calmed down today after heavy fighting in the past few days between the Federal government forces and the Jubbaland administration.
The calm felt in the town today is based on the fact that government forces led by Abdirashid Janan completely took control of Baladxawo district last night.
The government forces’ takeover of Baladxawo district is said to have come as a result of a joint plan with pro-Jubbaland forces, which led to the successful cessation of the fighting that has been going on in the town for the past two weeks.
Government forces are today in strategic locations, including the district headquarters, the police station, and the immigration center, all of which were previously under the control of Jubbaland forces.
Reports also indicate that the Jubbaland forces that were vacated by the positions have retreated towards the Kenyan border, without putting up any resistance.
Telecommunications and electricity services in the city were also restored this morning, and today, in some neighborhoods of the city, business and normal life have already begun to gradually return.
