A cargo ship carrying weapons and military vehicles that was seized off the coast of Puntland yesterday is expected to dock at the port of Bosaso, according to preliminary information.
Footage posted on social media shows that the ship is carrying various types of weapons, armored vehicles and emergency vehicles. It is also clear that the ship came from Turkey, as the Turkish flag can be read on the stern of the ship.
So far, there has been no official statement from the Puntland administration or the Federal Government of Somalia about the weapons ship. The Somali Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, when asked about this matter, declined to provide any details.
Sources close to the Puntland administration say that PMPF special forces entered the ship, but it cannot be confirmed that weapons were unloaded. The forces are currently closely guarding the ship.
Also, other reports indicate that the ship encountered engine trouble, forcing it to stop off the coast of Bareedo district in the Bari region.
The official destination of the weapons is still unknown. Conflicting reports are circulating; some say the weapons shipment is destined for the Federal Government of Somalia, while others argue that it is destined for the Turkish embassy in Mogadishu.
