The Somali and British governments discussed accelerating the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Macalin Fiqi, today received in his office in Mogadishu Ambassador Charles Nicholas King, the new British Ambassador to Somalia.

Ambassador Charles Nicholas King was accompanied by officials from the British Embassy in Mogadishu during his meeting with the Somali Minister of Defense.

The officials from both sides discussed the strengthening of bilateral relations between the Somali and British governments, especially cooperation in security, training and combating so-called terrorist groups.

The Federal Minister of Defense also discussed with the new British Ambassador to Mogadishu how to accelerate activities related to supporting the new African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

Finally, Minister Ahmed Macalin Fiqi thanked the British government for its efforts in strengthening and supporting the Somali government in terms of security and combating Al-Shabaab and ISIS.
