The President of the Puntland State, Said Abdullahi Deni, has said that politicians are illegally recruiting soldiers in Puntland, describing it as an unacceptable and shameful act.

President Deni has directly accused some of the opposition politicians in Puntland, urging them to express their political views or criticisms peacefully.

“No one will be spared who wants to destroy the Puntland government system. There will be no turning back for anyone who violates the constitution and the law of the land,” said President Deni.

President Deni said that some of those involved in recruiting soldiers have immunity. He pointed out that if the administration takes action, these people could be accused of suppressing people with different views.

Recently, the Speaker of the Puntland Parliament also said that military recruitment activities are underway in the Sanaag region, blaming politicians who oppose Puntland. He stated that any illegal action that threatens the security and unity of the Puntland administration will not be accepted.

Information we have received indicates that poet Abdirashid Yusuf Jibriil, the former Speaker of the Puntland Parliament, is among those accused of being behind the recruitment of the troops.

Poet Abdirashid, currently a member of parliament in Puntland, is among the politicians campaigning for Sanaag region to join the SSC-Khaatumo administration. We have received information that he is working on this issue with the Federal Government of Somalia, which supports the unification of Sool and Sanaag into SSC-Khaatumo.

The Puntland parliament is currently discussing a plan to strip MP Abdirashid of his immunity, which if implemented could lead to formal charges being brought against him.
