A land dispute has erupted between the Puntland and SSC-Khaatumo administrations over areas along the border between the two sides.
The Puntland administration yesterday sent troops to Shaxda in Karkaar region, where officials and officials from the SSC-Khaatumo administration had gone the day before.
According to a statement from the Puntland police, armed militias who claimed to be from Taleex area secretly entered Shaxda.
Shaxda, which is located on the border of Sool region, was previously claimed by Somaliland. However, Puntland has accused SSC-Khaatumo of engaging in land claims that belong to Puntland.
Puntland’s Minister of Information, Mahmoud Aydiid Dirir, accused the SSC-Khaatumo president of trying to cut off some of its regions from Puntland, which he described as unacceptable.
Since Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre visited Lascaanod, relations between Puntland and SSC-Khaatumo have been deteriorating. Puntland still considers SSC-Khaatumo to be part of the Puntland administration.
