Somaliland’s Foreign Minister, Abdirahman Dahir Aden, expressed optimism that Somaliland will receive international recognition this year.
The Minister, who is in the United States, called on Somaliland citizens in the diaspora and Somaliland in general to join hands to realize this dream.
“This year is not about recognition being passed over, all we need is to join hands, embrace each other, and work together to achieve recognition, uniting our hearts and minds,” said Minister Abdirahman.
He said that year after year, the desire for national independence among Somaliland people is getting stronger, and the people of Somaliland have shown their determination that they will never give up until they achieve full independence.
The Minister held meetings last week with lawmakers from both US congresses who are campaigning for Somaliland’s cause, saying that the interests of Somaliland and the United States are compatible.
Somaliland has received support from a number of members of the US Senate and Congress, and a bill has been submitted to both chambers seeking to recognize Somaliland.
