The two leaders, whose countries are participating in the ATMIS operation, said after a meeting at the Nairobi Presidency on Thursday that they are concerned about the threat of terrorism and insecurity in the Horn of Africa region, and affirmed their commitment to strengthening peace. and regional security.

“During my meeting with President Museveni, we expressed concern over the reduction in Atmis forces in Somalia and urged that the reduction timelines be consistent with the security situation in Somalia,” President Ruto said in a joint statement. produced by him and his Ugandan counterpart.

However, the statement by the leaders of the two countries comes as it is expected that 4,000 Atmis soldiers will leave Somalia by the end of June, in addition to the 5,000 soldiers who left the mission last year.
