The Federal Government of Somalia strongly condemned the decision of the Government of Colombia to recognize Israel’s claim to sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia stated that such recognition is null and void and goes against international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of territorial integrity.
Somalia noted that the Golan Heights are occupied Syrian territory, stressing that no unilateral action can change the legal and historical reality of that territory.
The Government of Somalia also supported Syria and the Syrian people, and stated that it opposes any action that undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all states, especially Colombia, to uphold international law, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, and refrain from recognizing illegitimate territorial claims.
Somalia also reiterated its position that the Golan Heights are Syrian territory occupied by Israel, and their status cannot be changed through unilateral measures.
