The new Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur (Jaamac), officially assumed office today, following a ceremony held at the Speaker and Committees’ headquarters in Villa Hargeisa.
The handover ceremony was attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Saadiya Yasin Haji Samatar, Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow and other officials.
The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People, Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, who spoke at the event, thanked the Election Committee for the Speaker of the House of the People, while also praising Saadiya Yasin Haji Samatar and the leadership she demonstrated during her time as Acting Speaker of the House of the People.
For her part, Saadiya Yasin Haji Samatar thanked the Election Committee for the manner in which they handled the election of the Speaker of the House, noting the importance of cooperation and the continuation of the activities of the Parliament.
The new Speaker of the House of the People, Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur (Jaamac), said he would lead the House with justice, transparency and unity, promising that the first priority would be given to strengthening the legislative activities and protecting the constitutional role of the House.
He also stressed the importance of the House of the People working together in the public interest and realizing its goals.
Speaker Jamac called on all Members of the House of the People to participate jointly in fulfilling the constitutional duties entrusted to them.
