Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya, Ambassador Jibril Ibrahim Abdulle, has voiced Somalia’s concern over the threat of Houthi attacks against ships in the Red Sea, stressing the wide-ranging impact it could have on Somalia and regional security.

Ambassador Jibril Abdulle pointed out the strategic importance of Somalia for maritime trade, comparing the pirate operations with the current threats from the Houthis’ actions in the Red Sea.

“The disruption of international trade by Houthi attacks has a serious impact on Somalia’s economy,” said Jibril Abdulle, underscoring the possibility of increased terrorism and economic destruction in the region.

Somalia’s ambassador to Kenya has expressed the possibility of Al Shabaab getting weapons and illegal military supplies from the Houthis in the Red Sea.

He pointed out that the threat of Al-Shabaab is increasing due to the support they can get from the Houthis, which can further destabilize the region and hinder international efforts to prevent terrorism and pirates.
