The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the situation in the Horn of Africa.
This meeting follows the growing tensions that resulted from the agreement between the Ethiopian government and the Somaliland administration.
The Somali government has accused Ethiopia of violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, which is a threat to the stability of the region in the Horn of Africa.
The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, recently called on the Security Council to hold a meeting and confront Ethiopia’s violation of the independence of the Republic of Somalia.
However, international organizations such as the European Union (EU) have already called for respect for the unity, independence and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia in accordance with its constitution, the African Union Charter and the United Nations.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League also expressed the same views, saying that it is necessary to “respect the rules and principles of good neighborly relations” and “to respect the independence of neighboring countries.”
