The Swedish Migration Agency has carried out a deportation operation involving 90 Somali nationals—gathered from Sweden, Norway, and Finland—according to Swedish media reports.

Among those deported were 22-year-old twins, Najiib and Caalya. Just hours before their deportation, they spoke to the media outlet *Alkompis* about their fear of being removed from Sweden and separated from their mother and family.

According to *Dagens ETC*, the operation was conducted by the European border agency, Frontex, in coordination with the Swedish border police. The individuals were transported from a detention center for those awaiting immigration decisions to Arlanda Airport.

Also on the flight was Zakariya, a father of five, who had spent several months in a detention center.

This operation took place at a time when all political parties in the Swedish parliament have supported a proposal to examine the possibility of suspending the deportation of young people. However, the Swedish Migration Agency has stated that it is awaiting an official decision before halting such operations. As reported by Dagens ETC, an earlier attempt to deport Caalya and Najiib failed after passengers on the plane protested the action.

In 2023, Sweden and Somalia entered into an agreement regarding cooperation on the deportation and repatriation of Somali citizens. As previously disclosed by Radio Sweden, the agreement involved financial assistance of over 100 million kronor from Sweden to Somalia, with the acceptance of deported Somali citizens made a condition of this cooperation.

The agreement has drawn criticism for linking development aid with migration policy, with questions raised regarding transparency and the safeguards in place for how the funds are utilized.
