Tensions in the Middle East have escalated after the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had attacked or sunk more than 20 Iranian naval vessels.
The command’s press release said that one of the Iranian vessels was torpedoed while in international waters in the Indian Ocean. The incident comes as the US-Iranian warship entered a dangerous phase.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan navy confirmed that it had rescued 32 people after receiving an emergency message from an Iranian warship called the IRIS Dena, which is believed to have been one of the targeted vessels.
Iran has also increased its attacks on US bases, embassies and oil facilities in the Gulf. The White House said that American citizens in the Middle East were advised to leave the region before Iran carried out its attacks.
The death toll across the region continues to rise. Iranian media reported that more than 940 people had been killed in US and Israeli strikes, while 11 people had been killed in Israel after Iranian missiles hit it. The US government also released the names of four of the six soldiers killed in an Iranian drone strike.
The situation in the Middle East is currently tense, with new waves of attacks expected in the coming days. These developments have raised fears that the war could escalate into a full-scale war in the region, affecting global security and the economy.
