The 8-day SSC-Khatumo regional state formation conference officially concluded in Lascaanod, Sool region.
The conference approved the constitution of a new state named the Northeastern Somali Regional State, with Lascaanod as its capital.
The Somali Minister of Interior and Federal Reconciliation, Ali Yusuf Ali (Xoosh), represented the Somali government in the establishment of this administration, which was attended by 417 delegates representing the various communities of Sool, Sanaag and Buuhoodle districts of Togdheer region.
The decision of the conference stated that the communities in these areas had fully agreed and established a new administration under the Federal Government of Somalia.
The Somali government commended the peace efforts of the local people, promising to work closely with the new administration.
Also, the name of the interim leader of the new regional state – Ali Abdullahi (Gaboobe) – who was a former traditional leader of the region, was announced.
The press release concluded with a message about the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting development, peace and the building of government institutions in these areas.
All politicians and the SSC community welcomed the completion of the new administration, after difficult days and conflicts that have plagued some parts of this administration.
The clans united in this new administration have agreed on the sharing of power, with the expectation that the presidential election for the Northeastern Somali Regional State, which has been renamed from the previous name of SSC Khaatumo, will be held soon.
