President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met on Monday with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, to review progress on efforts to stabilize Somalia and regional security cooperation.

The meeting, which took place at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, focused on the ongoing security transition in Somalia, national reconciliation, and the African Union’s role in peacebuilding.

Youssouf commended Somalia’s progress in security and civic integration, describing these efforts as “critical” for future stability in the Horn of Africa.

President Hassan Sheikh welcomed the support of the African Union, noting that the support of the international community remains essential to consolidate the achievements and overcome remaining challenges.

The discussions come as Somalia seeks to fully assume responsibility for its national security, in line with the ATMIS transition plan.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to working together for peace and development in Somalia and the wider East African region.
