The Banadir Regional Police Force has arrested five (5) suspects suspected of creating a video that falsely depicted a uniformed police officer robbing an ice cream vendor.
The video was widely shared on social media yesterday, sparking a huge backlash, and was later revealed to have been staged intentionally, according to the Police.
Rapid investigations by the Police confirmed that the video was a hoax intended to discredit the security agencies and mislead the public.
The suspects have been arrested and are expected to be brought before the competent court soon.
The Police Force warned the Somali public against spreading unverified news and videos that undermine public security and trust.
The security agency also said that anyone found creating, recording, or distributing such videos will face legal action.
