Reports from the Lower Shabelle region indicate that heavy fighting has been ongoing in the Sabiid and Canoole areas since early this morning, between government forces supported by Ugandan forces as part of the AUSSOM operation and Al-Shabaab.

The fighting began after Al-Shabaab attacked positions held by allied forces in the area, launching a series of powerful explosions that were heard far away in Sabiid and Canoole.

After the explosions, the two sides are still engaged in the heaviest fighting there, according to local media reports from civilians in Sabiid and Canoole.

Many casualties, including deaths and injuries, are reported as a result of the fighting in the Sabiid and Canoole areas, although it is not officially known how many casualties there have been in the fighting, which has been going on for more than three hours.

There is still no news from the Federal Government of Somalia and the Lower Shabelle regional administration regarding the ongoing heavy fighting in the area.

Finally, on June 21, the Sabiid and Canoole areas were liberated from Al-Shabaab militants who had been in control of the area for some time.
