The United Nations has set aside 5 million dollars from the emergency response fund to support the prevention of drought in Somalia, as announced by the Acting Emergency Relief Coordinator Joyce Msuya.
Somalia is facing a threat of drought caused by El Niña, with a 70% chance of reduced rainfall, threatening the food security of rural communities in central and southern Somalia as well as Puntland.
This investment aims to reach more than 130,000 people, helping them with food security, water, sanitation and hygiene.
With the climate conference underway in Baku, Azerbaijan, Somali delegates are advocating for increased climate finance, highlighting Somalia’s ongoing struggles with drought, floods, and building community resilience.
