The African Union Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the United Nations have started meetings to discuss the third phase of reducing the ATMIS force in Somalia.

Souef Mohamed Elamine, the head of ATMIS and the Deputy Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Somalia, Raisedon Zenenga, discussed the implementation of Phase 3 of the reduction and transfer of security responsibilities of the Somali forces.

They explored strategies for securing and stabilizing Somalia after ATMIS, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the Federal Government and international partners.

As ATMIS prepares for Phase 3 of the drawdown, the focus is on strengthening Somalia’s military and ensuring a coherent approach to security and governance reform, which is critical to Somalia’s path to recovery and sustainable development. said the authorities.

These discussions have come at a time when the Somali Armed Forces are doubting their ability to take over the responsibility of security in the country, while it is worth noting that the Al-Shabaab group has retaken some of the areas they were expelled from last year.

South of Mudug, which is the place where Al-Shabaab fought hard, where hundreds of soldiers and military officers died defending the country, the forces left and Al-Shabaab recaptured.

This issue has become a big disappointment in the operations that have been going on for almost two years, which the government is liberating many areas in Hirshabeelle and Galmudug.
