The Ugandan government is proud of securing the security of Somalia’s airspace and said that they have hindered Al-Shabaab attacks on airports.
Brig Gen Anthony Mbuusi, the commander of the Ugandan forces in Somalia, said that if there were no security efforts by the Ugandan forces, the Aden Adde airport would not have developed as it is today.
Brig Gen Lukwago said the regularity of security operations at Aden Adde Airport has resulted in the airport conducting more than 8,533 international flights, 18,166 domestic flights, and 1,686 relief operations.
The Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, Vincent Ssempijja, who paid a familiarization visit to the Ugandan troops in Somalia, praised the Ugandan soldiers who are currently part of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
However, two years ago, the member countries of the United Nations Security Council, including the US, China, France, Germany, and the UK, said that the Ugandan and AMISOM forces had withdrawn from their mission in Somalia.
AMISOM was changed to ATMIS in order to remain in Somalia for more years, and then transfer their responsibilities to the Somali security forces.
