The Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced in Jowhar the results of the elections held on September 30 in the HirShabelle regional state.
Abdikariin Ahmed Hassan, a member of the National Electoral Commission, stated that the election took place across 10 districts in HirShabelle, noting that the commission peacefully concluded the processes of voting, counting, and tallying the results.
Thirteen organizations contested the election for the HirShabelle Council, vying for 95 seats. According to the commission, over 124,000 people voted; 121,451 votes were deemed valid, while 2,182 were declared invalid.
The results announced by the commission indicate that the Justice and Unity Organization (Ururka Caddaaladda iyo Wadajir) secured the largest share of seats in the Council, winning 78 seats.
The Iftiin Qaran Organization won 5 seats, Karaama won 6 seats, Sincad won 3 seats, and the Somali Democracy Organization won 2 seats. The organizations of Caddaaladda iyo Midnimo, Madalsan, Muwaadiniinta Soomaaliyeed, and Ramaas each secured one or two seats, according to the commission’s results. The commission also announced the results of the local council elections across 10 districts; a total of 222 seats were contested, with the commission confirming that 121,466 votes were valid.
The *Cadaalada iyo Wadajir* organization secured the highest number of seats, winning 158. *Karaama* won 17 seats, *Madalsan* 14, *Iftiin Qaran* 12, and *Sincad* 8, while *Ramaas* secured 7 seats.
The commission chairman noted that, amidst the conflicts in HirShabelle and Galmudug, they had conducted a significant campaign aimed at preventing further strife in Somalia.
He stated that the commission is prepared to play a role in future processes, including the elections for both houses of Parliament.
The chairman also commended the people of HirShabelle and Galmudug, as well as the security forces—particularly the police—for their role in ensuring security at the polling stations.
