PRESS RELEASE
Somali People’s Political Organization
The Executive Committee of the Somali People’s Political Organization held a meeting via video conferencing, chaired by the Organization’s Chairman, Ali Mohamed Nuux (Timajilic). The meeting focused on the letters and statements sent abroad by the group calling itself the Somali Future Council.
After discussion and analysis, the meeting concluded with the following points:
The organization condemns the letters and statements sent to the international community that the organization considers to be detrimental to the independence, unity and existence of the Somali nation.
The organization suggests that groups engaged in such actions should not be recognized as political opposition groups that are consulted on the fateful issues of the country, but rather as those opposed to statehood, development and the interests of the nation.
The organization calls on the so-called opposition groups to consider the integration of Somali society as reflected in the ongoing elections in Galmudug, where citizens are participating together, avoiding clan divisions.
The organization announces that it will hold a conference to bring together all registered political organizations participating in the elections, to discuss the national interest, strengthen social cohesion and advance the democratic process.
Finally, the Somali People’s Political Organization calls on all political organizations, candidates and the Somali people not to use clan and tribalism in the election campaigns.
“We are one nation, one country and one future. Tribalism has no place in the construction of modern Somalia.”
