The Puntland Civil Society Organization (PUNSAA) has expressed deep concern over the situation in Bosaso, saying that the closure of commercial markets, which has entered its third day, and the disruption of operations at the Bosaso Port, which has entered its fourth day, have had a major impact on the economy and social life.

In a press release issued by PUNSAA, it was stated that the disruption of trade and port operations has disrupted basic services, jobs and sources of income for thousands of families, with the most vulnerable being those who rely on daily wages and small businesses.

Punsaa warned that if the situation continues, it could lead to increased inflation, shortages of essential goods and economic hardships that will further affect the people of Puntland. It noted that the Bosaso Port is the backbone of Puntland’s trade, and any disruption to its operations will have a major economic impact.

PUNSAA has finally called on Puntland, traders, the port authority and all relevant parties to urgently resolve the current dispute and restore commercial activities and port operations to prevent further economic and social impact.

The news from the PUNSAA umbrella organization comes as the government has so far failed to respond to the closure of commercial centers in cities including Bosaso and Garowe, while traders have refused to accept additional taxes imposed on services provided at the Bosaso port.
