The Minister of Interior and Security of Somaliland, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, met in Hargeisa with a high-level delegation from the United Kingdom, which included officials from the UK Office in Somaliland, the British Embassy in Somalia and a representative from the UK Ministry of Defence.
The meeting focused on strengthening security cooperation between Somaliland and the United Kingdom, with Minister Abdalle explaining his ministry’s plans to modernise and reform security institutions. He stressed the importance of both sides working together to combat terrorism, prevent security threats in the region and develop the capacity of security institutions, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
The Minister also presented to the delegation the plan for the Somaliland National Operations Command Centre (SL-NOCC), a centre for coordinating security institutions, sharing information, managing emergencies and enhancing the capacity to respond to security threats.
The British Government officials welcomed the Home Office’s reform and transformation plan, expressing their support for efforts to improve the security system and strengthen security institutions in Somaliland.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of further strengthening security cooperation and strategic partnership, expressing their commitment to developing cooperation in the areas of security, stability and shared interests between Somaliland and the United Kingdom.
