A senior Houthi official who controls parts of Yemen has warned against what he described as an Israeli presence in Somaliland, saying it poses a threat to Yemeni and regional security.
Houthi-affiliated media reported that the deputy commander of the Houthi forces, Ali Hamoud Al-Mushki, made the remarks during a meeting with the military adviser to the UN special envoy for Yemen.
According to a report by the Houthi-controlled Saba news agency, Al-Mushki said that an Israeli military base or presence in Somaliland could lead to further tensions and affect the security of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden waterways.
There is no independent evidence to date to confirm the existence of an Israeli base or troops in Somaliland, and there has been no official statement from Somaliland or Israel on the matter.
Yesterday, local media reported that Israel had sent troops of African origin to Somaliland.
