The Pakistani government has said it will send a delegation to Mogadishu to discuss with the Somali government the release of a Pakistani worker held aboard a ship hijacked by Somali pirates.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, said the Pakistani government is in constant contact with Somali authorities to address the situation of a Pakistani worker held in Somalia.
Andrabi said the Pakistani embassy and the Foreign Ministry are closely monitoring the issue, noting that a Pakistani delegation may soon visit Mogadishu to meet with relevant agencies.
He said that at this stage it is not yet possible to immediately find the kidnapped people, but there is progress in talks and diplomatic relations in this regard.
The news from the Pakistani government came as pirate groups demanded to speak directly to representatives of the Pakistani government, according to sources close to the pirate groups that are holding the Honor 25 ship with Pakistani workers on board.
The pirates also released new images showing 17 crew members from the Honor 25, including 10 Pakistani nationals, who have been held since the ship was hijacked on April 21.
For two weeks, the families of the hostages have been in constant fear and anxiety for the safety of their loved ones.
