Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalan Abdi Ali (Dhaay), has said that Somalia does not need any external guarantees to defend its unity and borders.
The Foreign Minister made this statement after being asked if the government was confident that other countries would not recognize Somaliland following Israel’s move.
Minister Abdisalan Dhaay said that in today’s world, there are no reliable guarantees, as the international situation is changing, but Somalia is confident in its legal position and efforts to defend its national existence.
He noted that the government is always ready to explain the history, borders and reality of Somalia to the international community.
“We will fully oppose anything that we consider to be illegal recognition against northern Somalia. We do not expect guarantees from anyone to defend our nationhood,” the minister said.
Finally, the Minister said that Somalia prioritizes presenting its position to the world in a peaceful and legal manner, noting that Somalia has its own people, and that it itself will defend its existence and unity.
