The Northeastern Administration of Somalia has fully welcomed the implementation of local government elections in Mogadishu, describing them as an important step in strengthening democracy, good governance and citizen participation in the country’s leadership.

An official press release from the Northeastern Administration stated that such elections are key to building government institutions based on the will of the people, and will help strengthen the democratic system in Somalia.

The Northeastern Administration called on the Federal Government of Somalia, the Banadir Regional Administration and all relevant institutions to ensure that the elections are held in a free, transparent and secure manner, while protecting the will and rights of voters.

The press release also noted the importance of ensuring public security and maintaining law and order so that the public can vote peacefully, and preventing any disruption to the smooth conduct of the elections.

Finally, the Northeastern Somali Administration of Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and Southwest has urged all political stakeholders, civil society organizations, and the Somali people to support the electoral process and work to consolidate peace, law and national unity.

These elections will be the first to be held in Mogadishu in over 50 years, and are a step towards the democratic process.
