Actors Yusuf Abdillaahi Muse ‘Yusuf Cegaag’ and Abdiqani Mohamed Cegaag ‘Iskufilan’, who are very popular in Somaliland and the Somali region, have announced that they are joining politics.
Cegaag and Iskufilan, two actors who are friends and are known for bringing together a series of family-friendly films every Ramadan, have announced that they are running for the 2026 Somaliland House of Representatives elections.
Cegaag, who gave an interview to Galaydh TV, promised to protect the nation’s livestock if elected, implying that he will fight corruption. “I will protect the nation’s livestock if elected,” said Cegaag.
Actor Iskufilan, who also announced his candidacy in the Laasgeel area of the Saaxil region, asked residents to stand with their voices.
“I want you to accept my request, and Lasgeel will be represented in the House of Representatives and the local council. Our votes were previously carried, today we will insist on it,” said Iskufilan.
These actors were encouraged to join politics after MP Abwaan Hassan Saleebaan Dhuxul ‘Laabsaalah’, who previously served as the chairman of the musical group Xidigaha Geeska, as well as a famous poet and lyricist, succeeded in running for the 2021 House of Representatives elections.
Although society is wondering how an actor can become a politician, there are many actors in the world who have turned politicians, such as the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, who was a famous actor in his country before joining politics. In India, for example, Tamil Nadu actor Vijayakanth has entered politics, winning a seat in parliament, and Bollywood legend Shatrughan Sinha is now a member of the Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha). Similarly, there are other actors who have entered politics around the world.
The two actors founded a film production company called Sollywood, and they released a series called Damac, which was a huge hit, during Ramadan this year. The series has received thousands of views on social media.
