The Somali People’s Democratic Union (MDDS), which was announced on January 20, 2025 in Mogadishu and was founded by more than 20 political parties/organizations, opened its 1st Congress today in Mogadishu, with delegates attending the Conference approving the MDDS Law by a majority vote, which defines the power-sharing mechanism in its Central Council, the Executive Committee, and independent committees.
The Conference also elected today the members of the Board as the Official Chairman for the next five years, God willing, the Deputy Chairman and Secretary, with Ali Mohamed Nuux Timajilic elected as the Chairman, while Ugaas Aweys Ugaas Hussein Honero was elected as the 1st Deputy Chairman, and Ubax Ali Farax was elected as the 2nd Deputy Chairman.
The conference will begin its second day with the election of the Secretary General and his assistant, members of the Central Council and members of the Executive Committee and independent committees, namely the Party/Organization Dispute Resolution Committee, the Ethics Committee, the Supervision and Anti-Corruption Committee, the Party Election Committee and the MDDS Party Revenue and Finance Committee.
The elected leaders promised to lead the party with equality and justice among its members and to coordinate the sections and administrative levels of the MDDS Party. When the elected Chairman Timajilic spoke about the conflict that has plagued the leaders and administrations of the Federal Government, he blamed the various sections of society for which there was no one to speak out and to be observed. The scholars, intellectuals and people who used to come to each other’s aid when they had problems came to speak out. Look at what happened in Raskambooni, who spoke up? Who has been silenced? On the other hand, Puntland and the central government, said Timajilic, stating that they are standing together to address these issues, concluded Chairman Timajilic.
