MP Mohamed Abib regained his freedom after the High Court Order.

MP Mohamed Abiib Yusuf has now been released from Madheera prison, after the High Court of Somaliland ordered his release.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Somaliland, Hussein Mirre Giirre, has confirmed to the media that the MP has been released from prison after the order issued by the court.

Giirre said that the court was responsible for arresting the MP in accordance with the constitution, he noted that the court showed independence, praising the decision it issued.

The MP said in a post on his Facebook page, “I can confirm that I have regained my freedom. I thank everyone who sympathized with me during the 30 days I was illegally detained in Mandera prison”.

The Supreme Court of Somaliland described Abib’s arrest as illegal, calling on government agencies to abide by the law.

The MP was arrested after the prosecution filed charges of subversion against him, which the House of Representatives rejected by a majority vote.
