The government of Somaliland has said that the memorandum of understanding with Ethiopia has ended successfully, and that it will be signed soon.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland D.R. Isse Kayd Mohamud, this morning called the foreign diplomats in Somaliland, telling them that the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia will soon be changed to an official agreement.
“Here I am announcing that the agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia has ended, and the agreement will be concluded very soon, that is a success,” said Minister Kayd.
The Ethiopian government, which yesterday presented its achievements in the year 2016 in Ethiopia, presented the picture of the President of Somaliland and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia during the signing of the agreement.
It is understood that Ethiopia is committed to implement the agreement, which has not yet become official. The agreement between the two parties has caused a deterioration in the relationship between the governments of Somalia and Ethiopia.
The government of Djibouti, which saw the agreement as an economic threat, sent a request to Ethiopia to give Ethiopia a port, but Ethiopia has not yet responded to the request.
