The former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Member of Parliament Fowsiyo Yusuf Haji Aden has left to participate in the election of the chairman of the African Union Commission.

MP Fowsiyo Yusuf Adan is not among the list of four candidates who have registered for the election of the chairman of the African Union. According to our information, it is said that she has given up her will for that seat.

Yesterday, August 6, was the deadline for candidates to submit their applications.

It was recently when Fawsiyo accused the president of Somalia and some regional leaders of telling her to withdraw her candidacy for the chair of the African Union Commission, despite the fact that she was opposed to the request made by the leaders.

Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has received another boost in the race for the African Union Commission, after it was reported that Somalia and Seychelles have withdrawn their candidates, as the deadline for submitting the application has expired.

Reports from the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa say that at least 4 candidates have presented their bids, among them, Mr. Odinga who wants to take over from the outgoing president Moussa Faki from Chad, the candidate of Djibouti. Mohamud Ali Yusuf, who is now the Minister of Foreign Affairs and has been in diplomacy for a long time, a candidate from Mauritius who appeared to have jumped in late in the race, and another from the island of Madagascar who is also part of this race.

It is predicted that the final challenge will be between the Kenyan opposition leader, Raila Odinga and Djibouti’s foreign minister, Mohamud Ali Yusuf.

The election will take place in February next year.
