The Democratic Party has announced that US Vice President Kamala Harris has secured the support of 99% of delegates, to officially become the candidate for the US President, after the conclusion of five days of online voting.
She became the first black woman to be nominated by her party to represent her in the November presidential election, according to the Associated Press.
Harris, 59, became the first female vice president in the United States in 2020. She will face former US President Donald Trump in the next election, who recently said he would easily defeat her if she ran.
Kamala Harris and her vice presidential candidate, who is expected to announce today or tomorrow, will have less than 100 days to campaign before the November election.
If Harris wins the election, she will be the first female president of the United States, as well as the first South Asian president and the second black president.
Harris has already telegraphed that she does not plan to deviate much from the programs and policies established by Joe Biden, who recently resigned to run for re-election in the next election.
