The Secretary of the Somali Future Council, Member of Parliament Abdullahi Carab, stated that the Somali opposition has no plans to establish an armed faction in the country, emphasizing that they intend to seek power through peaceful means.

The MP made these remarks during an interview in which he discussed the country’s political situation, the position of the Somali Future Council, and the talks announced by the Federal Government.

Abdullahi Carab denied allegations that the opposition is planning to form an armed faction. He also clarified that Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Sanbaloolshe) is not a member of the Somali Future Council, and he rejected the characterization of the opposition as a group seeking to attain power through war.

“Sanbaloolshe is not part of the Future Council, and we are not creating an armed faction. We intend to seek power peacefully,” the MP said.

Furthermore, the MP noted that the opposition has not yet reached a final decision regarding its next political steps, adding that the matter will be discussed internally, and the resulting decision will subsequently be shared with the public. Abdullahi Carab also argued that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s term in office has expired, noting that previous opportunities for dialogue were not fully utilized. However, he indicated that the opposition is still deliberating on its stance regarding the current situation.

These remarks come amidst a political dispute between the Federal Government and the opposition concerning the tenure of government institutions, the electoral process, and the need for political dialogue.
