The Towfiiq political organization, led by Sheikh Shakir, has expressed its opposition to the Election Commission’s decision to exclude it from the list of political organizations participating in the Galmudug re-election.
In a statement issued on Monday, Towfiiq affirmed its readiness to participate in the election, noting its desire for the process to be conducted in accordance with the country’s laws, regulations, and electoral procedures.
The organization expressed concern over the Election Commission’s move, highlighting that it was Towfiiq that had petitioned the court to rerun the election after alleging violations of electoral procedures and laws.
“It came as a surprise that the very organization which called for the correction of the electoral process learned of its exclusion from the election via social media,” Towfiiq stated.
The organization also noted that the Election Commission holds the list of its candidates vying for seats in the two legislative chambers, citing this as evidence of its readiness to participate in the election.
Towfiiq called on the Election Commission to avoid any actions that could be interpreted as bias or discrimination, and to operate with impartiality and adherence to the law. The organization stated its belief that the decision to exclude it from the election is linked to the legal challenge it previously filed regarding the election results—a move it described as inconsistent with the principles of justice and the process of free elections.
Towfiiq also called on the President of Somalia to intervene in the matter, urging him to ensure compliance with the law and court orders.
Finally, the organization called upon its supporters and the people of Galmudug to prepare for peaceful gatherings and demonstrations to express their stance regarding an election it described as free and fair.
