The Somali People’s Political Union (MPU) welcomes the ongoing political dialogue in Mogadishu between the Federal Government of Somalia and parties with different views on the electoral process that the current government is implementing in the regions and districts of the country. The Union believes that the implementation of one person, one vote elections is an important step in the development of democracy, while fully protecting the rights of Somali communities, women and all sectors of society.
The Somali People’s Political Union declares its opposition to politics based on personal interests or personalization, and fully supports a multi-party system and a political competition that is free, fair, transparent, and in accordance with the constitution and laws of the country.
The Union also welcomes the views and recommendations presented by the faction led by former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and the faction led by former Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke. The organization believes that the constructive ideas put forward by these parties can greatly contribute to improving the electoral process and building a sustainable national consensus.
Meanwhile, the Somali People’s Political Organization calls on all Somali politicians and other parties that have presented different perspectives to protect the reputation and dignity of the Somali nation, and prioritize dialogue, compromise and Somali political agreement. The organization calls for avoiding foreign interference or external mediation that could harm Somali sovereignty and decision-making, while seeking solutions within the country.
Finally, the Somali People’s Political Organization calls on the Federal Government of Somalia and all opposition parties to deeply understand the difficult security, political and regional situations surrounding the country, and to realize that unity, solidarity and genuine national consensus are the only way to prevent any conspiracy or challenge against the existence, stability and future of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
