The Peace and Life Party, led by former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, has presented the type of election it believes will help Somalia overcome its current political situation, after attending the second round of electoral talks in Mogadishu between the Federal Government of Somalia and the opposition.

The conference, organized by the Turkish government, was attended by the Federal Government of Somalia and Nabad iyo Nolol, with the participation of the governments of Turkey, the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United Nations, known as the “Quartet”.

The Nabad iyo Nolol Technical Committee said that today’s meeting focused on each side presenting the type of election it prioritizes and how to overcome the current political situation.

The party said that the type of election it is proposing is based on ten guidelines, including:

1: An election that is easy for people to understand.

2: An election that is credible, visible, and difficult to dispute.

3: An election that is held within a limited time.

4: An inclusive election in which every Somali who wishes to vote can vote freely.

5: An election in which registration and voting take place in one place and on one day.

6: An election in which everyone votes for the party of their choice.

7: An election in which parliamentary seats are allocated based on how the parties receive the votes of the people.

8: An election in which the government and the opposition are satisfied with the administration and its security.

9: An election that unites the people and the Somali country, and protects political freedom and independence.

10: That Nabad iwo Nolol is ready for anything that Somalis agree to, as long as it does not harm the interests of the country and the people.

Nabad iko Nolol also said that the election format it presented is the one it had previously prepared in 2018, during the time of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, in collaboration with the technical committee consisting of the Independent Electoral Commission, the Boundaries Commission, and various agencies and offices of the Federal Government.

The party said that the previously prepared election is the same type of election that the Federal Government of Somalia wants today.
