The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, received at the National Palace the Mayor of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Ms. Nadiya Mohamed, who is visiting Somalia.
The meeting focused on the role of the Somali diaspora in the development of the country and strengthening relations between Somalia and the United States.
According to a press release from the Presidency, President Hassan Sheikh praised Nadiya Mohamed for her achievements in leadership and participation in American politics, noting that her achievements demonstrate the potential and role of Somalis in the international community.
The President also encouraged the Mayor of St. Louis Park to further strengthen efforts to enhance relations between the two countries, and to participate in the development of investment, social services and the reconstruction of Somalia.
For her part, Nadiya Mohamed thanked the President for the welcome extended to her, stating that she is committed to strengthening cooperation and supporting development efforts in Somalia.
She also indicated that she was surprised by the changes in security and development that she saw in Mogadishu, according to a press release from the Presidency.
