The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab, has made serious allegations against the President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, accusing him of inciting unrest and “political violence” against the security and stability of Mogadishu.
Speaking at an event in Mogadishu, Muungaab said that anyone who tries to disrupt peace and traffic in the capital will not be tolerated, stressing that the people have the right to express their political views in accordance with the constitution.
“Everyone has the freedom of thought and opinion, but it will not be allowed to harm the peace of the city or harm the people in the name of politics,” Muungaab said.
The Governor of Banadir Region also said that there are “violent groups” who he accused of wanting to return Mogadishu to insecurity and political chaos.
“Mogadishu is the mirror of the country. If it is peaceful, it will have a positive impact on all of Somalia, and if it is backward, it will affect the entire country,” said Muungaab.
This statement comes as political tensions have been rising in recent days between the federal government of Somalia and some of the regional state leaders, especially Puntland, which is part of the Somali Future Council and the opposition has the largest number of members, and has promised to hold a demonstration in Mogadishu in the next 4 months against the government of President Hassan Sheikh.
