The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and a delegation he led have arrived in Djibouti City to attend the inauguration ceremony of the country’s re-elected President, Ismail Omar Guelleh.

The President and his delegation were warmly welcomed at the airport by the Prime Minister of Djibouti, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, and other officials, who highlighted the cooperative relations between Somalia and Djibouti.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is among the leaders of the Horn of Africa countries invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of the President of Djibouti, and while in the country, he will hold meetings with senior Djiboutian leaders and other officials.

Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh recently won the country’s elections, winning 97.8 percent of the popular vote, which allowed him to remain in power for a sixth time. Although the elections were boycotted by most of the country’s opposition, while the only candidate competing received very few votes.

Ismail Omar Guelleh, 78, has ruled the country for 27 years, after the constitution was amended to remove the age limit for presidential candidates.
