The Somali opposition said they still do not have full confidence in the consultation platform set up by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Former MP Abdirahman Dheere, speaking on behalf of the opposition, said they are still considering how to respond to the invitation sent by the president.

“Hassan Sheikh Mohamud sent an invitation, and we are still considering how to respond. We know that he is not sincere, and he has other trips and activities, but we have not yet reached a final decision on our position,” said Abdirahman Dheere.

He said that the meetings held in recent days by the council are part of efforts to prepare an electoral process that they want to present to the Somali people.

Abdirahman Dheere noted that discussions and consultations are still ongoing, and that in the coming days the council is expected to present its views on the electoral process and the official response to the president’s invitation.

The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, recently invited the Somali Future Council to attend a meeting scheduled for May 10, 2026 in Mogadishu.

A press release from the presidency said that the invitation came after consultations the president had held with various sectors of society in recent weeks, and the planned meeting will focus on crucial issues related to the future of the country.
