Puntland has said it has killed a senior ISIS leader, Ahmed Muse Sidi. The leader, according to Puntland, was in charge of ISIS’s foreign relations and coordination.

The Minister of State for the Presidency of Puntland, Abdifitax Mohamed Nur, confirmed the killing of the leader in an interview with BBC Somali. The minister said Ahmed Muse Sidi was also in charge of recruiting members for ISIS from Puntland’s clans.

Abdifitax said the operation to kill the leader took place in the Togga Miiraale area, saying that the man had been wanted by Puntland and international security agencies for a long time, as he held important responsibilities that posed a threat to regional security.

The minister described the killing of Ahmed Muse Sidi as a major setback for ISIS, and noted that the group would not easily recover from the loss of this leader.

He is the highest-ranking ISIS leader to be killed since Puntland began its operation against ISIS in December 2024.
