Puntland security forces said they killed several Daesh fighters during a military operation that took place this morning in the Calmikaad mountains in the Bari region.
This operation, which was said to be planned, was also captured according to military officials, 48 positions where Daesh fighters were.
According to the officials, foreign fighters were killed in a planned operation early this morning.
A statement issued by the military officials said, “The security forces captured 48 positions of the IS group, while several fighters, including foreigners, were killed in the military operations.”
The operation has now entered its third phase, with Puntland striving to liberate the Daesh group from the mountainous areas of Calmikaad.
However, an official from Puntland’s security agencies told HOL that the war against Daesh could take up to four years.
The official pointed out that the power of the Daesh group is not easy, noting that there are almost two thousand foreign fighters in the mountains of Almikaad.
“The area where Daesh is located is more than 400 km away. “The Puntland forces are now in about 80 km of that area,” said the official.
