The presidential and party elections in Somaliland ended last night in a peaceful atmosphere, and the official results are awaited.
Voting for the election, which officially opened at 7:00 am on Wednesday 13 November, closed at 6:00 pm last night, with the counting of votes beginning at 7:00 pm.
So, the counting of the votes in the regions and districts has ended last night, and the verification and tallying is going on, as the candidates and the parties have turned up until last night to find out the votes they have received in each area.
The official result will be announced on Wednesday, November 21, a week after the voting day, when the 6th president of Somaliland and the three political parties that will rule the next 10 years will be officially announced.
Somaliland Electoral Commission Chairman Muse Hassan Yusuf who spoke to MMTV said that the general elections ended in a calm environment and he warned some people who are spreading unofficial results.
