The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, while speaking at the opening of the annual meeting of the Somali Banking Union, once again spoke strongly about the tax issues.
He said the president is a fraudster who hides from paying taxes, and the government will hold accountable anyone who refuses to pay taxes.
“If you evade paying taxes, it is theft and a crime and you will be punished, it is not right to change the merchant number, you know that the public pays the tax and you are the facilitators, and it is done with the tax for social services and security,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. .
President Hassan Sheikh praised the Somali businessmen for their efforts in the development of the country, and stressed that they should take special responsibility in paying taxes which is a major part of the existence of government.
“Government is regulation and the enforcement of laws, to get that you have to pay taxes, the government cannot work without taxes, I applaud the banks and telecommunication organizations but I urge businessmen to pay taxes and not hide from the process and the law that was established for it,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The statement made by President Hassan Sheikh comes from the fact that most of the traders have removed the special numbers that they used to trade in, known as the Merchant, after the government introduced those numbers for business to be deducted from the tax.
