The government of Somaliland has announced that it has closed a library owned by Egyptians in Hargeisa, due to security reasons.
Minister of Foreign Affairs D.R. Isse Kayd Mohamud, announced the closure of this library, which was the largest center owned by the Egyptians in Somaliland, and the library staff were called to leave Somaliland within 72 hours.
“The government of Somaliland has felt ongoing security concerns, therefore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to permanently close the cultural library in Egypt and expel those working in the country for a period of seventy-seven hours,” said the Minister of Archives. .
The minister said that the intelligence forces will remain on top, and at the same time they will make sure that the arrest and transfer of the workers happens in a calm and appropriate manner.
This library, which is adjacent to the Presidency of Somaliland, has been a center for Egyptians for a long time.
Somaliland has expressed concern about the recent defense relations between Somalia and Egypt, as Egypt has delivered shipments of weapons to Mogadishu, and is expected to send troops there.
Somaliland has said that the Egyptian forces that are said to be coming to Somalia are a threat to its existence, which has caused suspicion of the Egyptian library adjacent to the Somaliland Presidency.
