The Ministers of Health of the Regional Governments and Banadir Region have accused the Ministry of Health of Somalia of canceling its cooperation with the regional governments and Banadir Region.

In a joint letter, they said they are concerned about the Ministry’s failure to implement health development projects, especially those involving important funding and collaboration with international organizations.

They accused the Somali Ministry of Health of the following points.

Termination of the cooperation of partner agencies in health projects in all regions.

Losing access to the $25 million World Bank Health Damal project.

The $48 million sitting on the COVID-19 project is scheduled to expire in October 2025.

Delays in the implementation of the Global Fund project and public health services.

Exclusion of the Member States of the Federation from key decision-making processes in health policy.

The materials and medicines that were sent directly to the Member Governments of the Federal Government and Banadir Region have been stopped by an order and forced to transfer the agencies to the Federal Ministry.

The Ministry of Health has started a new system to implement service delivery from district to village.

The GAVI Project for Immunization of Somali Children and Mothers has been delayed.

The Minister of Health called for an urgent solution to these issues to avoid further deterioration of service delivery.

Finally, the health ministers of the states and the Benadir region told the presidents of the Member States of the Federal Government and the Governor of the Benadir region that this complaint is based on a real fact and has had an impact in the past, present and future, and has been officially submitted several times to the leaders and management of the Federal Ministry of Health, and needs an immediate and lasting solution.
